S.A.I.L. (Supervised Apartments and Independent Living) - Clothing and household goods

SAIL is a program that supports teenagers transitioning from foster care to independent living.  These young people must equip their apartments. Many are young mothers with babies. Donations of towels, toiletries, kitchen utensils, furniture and baby items are welcome throughout the year. We collect “gifts” for the residents at holiday time, especially gift cards. We also invite these teens to shop at the end of each church rummage sale to take whatever they need.

Food Pantry of West Hartford

During the months of November and December, we collect food to share locally with those in need.

Mitten Tree

This holiday collection of new hats, scarves and mittens helps to ensure that inhabitants of Interval House in Hartford (a shelter for victims of domestic violence) will be warmer for the winter.

Special Collections & Year-end Holiday Giving - A Connection to the Community

Through-out the year, the Church gives away the Sunday worship collection and other funds collected through this appeal to support our social action projects and organizations that the Church is involved with. The largest effort at giving happens at the end of the year Holiday Giving Campaign that collects donations that support the needy, abused children, troubled teenagers, battered women, and counseling for families and teenagers through our partner organizations.

The Scholarship Committee - Supporting Emerging Ministers

The Easter offering is divided between the UU Service Committee and the Church’s Scholarship Committee. This group supports students who are pursuing the Unitarian Universalist ministry.

UU Service Committee - A Connection to the World

The Easter offering is divided between the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), which promotes human and social justice worldwide, and the Church's Scholarship Committee. This group supports students who are pursuing the Unitarian Universalist ministry. UUSC Programs are based on Unitarian Universalist principles that affirm the worth, dignity and human rights of every person. UUSC supports programs and policies that empower women, defend the rights of children and supports the struggles of indigenous people and oppressed racial and ethnic groups, and provides support when disasters strike impoverished areas.
