Outreach Programs to Combat Hunger Print

South Park Inn

The 3rd Saturday of the month, year-round

Universalist stew or a hearty rice, beans and beef dish fills the stomachs of over 100 homeless people in Hartford. The Church purchases the food and volunteer cooks prepare the meal from 3-5:30 PM at South Park Inn, a shelter, transitional living facility and soup kitchen in the south end of Hartford. Servers volunteer from 5 PM to 7:30 PM (serving duties are appropriate for children ages 11 years and older; younger children can help a parent prepare the meal.)  If you can’t cook or serve a meal, please donate a baked dessert.

Hands on Hartford

Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford, 3rd Monday of the month, year round

Volunteers from our congregation cook and serve a meal for 60-70 needy people at the Center City Churches’ congregate meal site in Hartford the third Monday of each month. The church purchases the groceries and volunteers cook at the soup kitchen in the parish hall basement at Christ Church Cathedral.  The volunteers are scheduled for 4:30-7:00 PM.

Have a Heart Club

Mondays, 9:00 AM, year round

Have a Heart Club makes sandwiches which are delivered to the homeless and needy at the House of Bread in Hartford.  If you can’t be a regular team member, please consider substituting occasionally; the Club will gladly welcome your help.  (It typically takes an hour or so for five volunteers to make 200 sandwiches.)
