Learning about connections to the wider world is an important part of religious education. In the church school, we start with connections to our church community and extend our sphere of concern to the world community.
We choose our "Connections" projects carefully to help the children understand the importance of service, locally and beyond.
Connections projects promote compassion and altruism. In the past several years, we have developed especially strong ties to Sanchez School in Hartford and hawkwing, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising the quality of life on the poverty-stricken Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. We have had numerous drives to provide school supplies, uniform sweaters, toys, winter coats and boots, and books to children in Hartford and South Dakota.
For many years, the Church School has spear-headed an annual Mitten Tree to benefit Interval House, and an annual food drive benefiting local food banks.
