Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers
We provide childcare for babies and toddlers in the Nursery during the nine and eleven o’clock services. Preschool classes combining three and four year olds run for the full hour at both the nine and eleven o’clock services. Please bring these very young children to their rooms five to ten minutes prior to the beginning of each service so that they may settle in before you need to leave for the Sanctuary. This adjustment period is especially important at the beginning of the church school year.
Kindergarten - 6th Grade
Children in kindergarten through the sixth grade participate in the first fifteen minutes of the adult worship in the Sanctuary. After “A Time For All Ages”, they leave the Sanctuary to attend church school. We may organize classes by grade level or age range depending upon class registration and the curricula being offered. We wish to remain flexible so that we may offer our children the best church school experience possible. A parent or a designated adult must pick up children in the second grade and younger after the service has ended.
Junior High Youth
Our seventh and eighth graders are encouraged to continue their religious education by joining our 11 AM Junior High Youth Group. The curriculum is an exciting blend of activities and discussions designed to give young teens a chance to explore their own spiritual nature and their place in the larger community. The program offers opportunities for these young people to challenge themselves and to design and carry out service projects. In addition, there is an extended Coming of Age Program which is open to eighth graders. These youth will have mentors from the congregation who will guide them throughout the year.
OUR WHOLE LIVES (OWL) Program for Junion High Youth
The primary focus of this program is to help young people in grades 7 and 8 develop healthy and respectful relationships. The curriculum is well-researched and time-tested by the Unitarian Universalist Association. While there is frank sexual content, it is presented in a larger context than is or can be presented in our public schools. The lessons teach, with UU perspective and values, what mature, responsible sexuality looks like. There will be an information session in the fall and weekly class meetings will take place from January through March.
Senior High Youth Group (Grades 9-12)
YRUU (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists) is a program designed specifically for Unitarian Universalists of high school age. The group fosters a strong sense of community and provides teenagers with a place to explore their spirituality. Members of the youth group plan and orchestrate three major church events: the Halloween Haunted House, Souper Bowl Sunday, and Youth Sunday. A typical YRUU meeting consists mainly of a worship or discussion and a game. Because the youth plan and carry out the worships and discussions, the topics and issues raised are those that are particularly important to teenagers. Two youth advisors provide guidance to the group.
